I'm excited to help kick off the blog tour for Susan Buchanan's new release, You Can't Hurry Love.
I was immediately captured when I saw this book was accepting bloggers for the tour. Why? Besides being a HUGE sloth fan myself, I had an entry in my writing idea book for a sloth romance with a woman who goes to Costa Rica to visit the sloths at the sanctuary and falls in love with one of the vets there. But Susan has saved me the trouble, because she wrote it first. (Don't worry, I have no shortage of story ideas. I'm still plugging away at another idea right now.)
Here's a summary of the book:
A 30th birthday celebration. A sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica. A split-second decision.
When Kat MacDonald takes the trip of a lifetime to Costa Rica, she doesn’t count on ditching her dead-end job, sending her uber-controlling boyfriend packing and volunteering at a sloth sanctuary.
But when she finally meets the swoon-worthy assistant manager Dexter, the chemistry between them is unmistakeable and sparks fly. Despite a rival for his affections, and her ex’s inability to know when to give up, she and Dexter are drawn to each other like magnets.
Just as she’s settling into life at the sanctuary and making friends, a letter arrives from back home in Scotland. A letter which could both upset her new plans and give her everything she has ever wanted. Everything except Dexter.
Kat is torn: should she stay in the tropical rainforest paradise with her beloved sloths, new friends and the delectable Dexter or pursue her lifelong dream? Or can she find a way to have it all?
A fun, escapist read full of romance, beautiful scenery and humour, perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Beth O’Leary, Leonie Mack and Julie Caplin.
MY REVIEW
I give the book a 3 star rating, which means I enjoyed it.
What I really enjoyed:
The descriptions of the scenery, the food, and the sloths.
Most of the characters at the sloth sanctuary.
Sloths!
Kat's best friend, Becca. Have I mentioned the sloths?
What kept me from a 5 star rating:
The subplot with Roisin didn't resonate with me.
Passage of time was abrupt sometimes, so that could be jarring to the flow of the narrative.
Overall thoughts:
If you're looking for a quick, light, low spice romance with adorable sloths, this is the book for you!
